Mexico- Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza:  It had been our dream for some time to visit the Mayan site of Chichen Itza (not Chicken Pizza as some call it!) Chichen Itza is located in the Mexican state of Yucatan and is one of the largest Maya cities so a good place for us to start.  We were not disappointed by this magnificent site but were surprised how big the site is with many buildings scattered across the site.  Contrary to what many people think the most famous pyramid El Castillo is not the only structure here.  What was more of a surprise was the huge number of people selling their wares both within and outside the site - everything from hats, to Mayan calendars, to jewellery etc. My temptation is to avoid the hard sell but the heat was getting to me so within an hour I had purchased a wide brimmed hat that I wore for almost the entire rest of the trip and each time reminded me of that first glorious sighting of Chichen Itza. You will see many pictures of me wearing my hat in subsequent posts.
