Rounding Cape Horn

Cape Horn is  a place of legend where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Pacific Ocean. It is feared for its often bad whether and dangerous seas. The island of Cape Horn is the end of the earth, ‘ Fin de Munda.’  Bitterly cold even now in summer. 400 miles south is Antarctica.

As we sail by a strange silence seems to envelop the landscape. The ocean and the dramatic landscape seem to notice our presence and benignly lets us pass.

As we pass by a huge rainbow,a sign from this magical place,  wishes us on our way. It is a landscape that moves me in a way that none has done before. Pictures and words are poor tools to evoke how special this place feels

The following day we hold the traditional sailor ceremony for those who have rounded he Horn for the first time. A baptism in the waters of the Horn. Trust me it was cold

  2. Oh wow what an exciting experience I can only imagine how you felt and the thoughts you might have had about those who went before you. Must also say that I'm loving the writing and you should seriously consider writing a book about your adventures. Can't wait to see where you go next.
