Six Go Wild in Folkestone

Folkestone is the place to be with friends on a hot summer’s day.

Arriving at lunch time, we started at Blooms Restaurant.  Although a varied menu, we nearly all opted for fish and most of us chose the Trawlers Pie, commonly known as Fish Pie.  This was absolutely enormous and one would have been enough between two especially as we had started with a platter of lovely homemade breads and oil.  All of this was washed down with an unusual but delicious lime and kiwi cider – very refreshing on a hot day.

Then it was off to explore Folkestone and especially the refurbished Harbour Arm which was open for its first day.  To celebrate the opening, a range of entertainment was put on and we were lucky enough to see an amazingly good reggae style band. With the shimmering blue sea behind, the blue sky and hot sun, we almost felt like we were in the Caribbean.  There was a real buzzy atmosphere and it was almost impossible not to give in to the urge to dance so we didn’t!  Helped by a number of bars and eating venues, there was a real party atmosphere.

We continued our walk through the streets of Folkestone amusing ourselves with the shops and sights in the arty old town.   A brilliant job has been done of breathing life into the small streets, and the arty shops give it a real bohemian feel.

We began to wind our way back towards Sandgate along the promenade, tree lined pathways and the pebble beach appreciating the architecture and the quirky art installations.

After a 5 mile walk we took a welcome break for a drink on the roof top bar of the Ship Pub as we looked out at the blue sea in front.

Thanks to our friends: Torben, Caroline, Tina, Dave and also Hanne for making this such a fun day.
